Activities, tourism & access

The Relais de la Poste estate is located in Magescq, a haven of peace between town, beach and forest.

FILL UP ON NATURE

Walk, breathe and enjoy the benefits of trees on your body and your health during a walk in the heart of the largest forest in Western Europe. Along one of the paths in our village, you may discover the 500-year-old Nerthe oak tree, classified as a Remarkable Tree. Or you could choose to float along the river in a plant heaven between ocean and forest. The Huchet stream, just 15 minutes from our estate, flows from Lac de Léon and winds its way through dunes, peat bogs, pines and cork oak over seven kilometres to its mouth on the beach at Moliets, in an imposing setting.

Use transport with a low environmental impact

In the Landes département, fossil fuels such as diesel have been replaced by bioNGV on several intercity coaches, following the commissioning of a natural gas for vehicles (NGV) station. Several biogas coaches run on the Dax - Mont-de-Marsan express line, which has Magescq (Place de la mairie, 200 metres from the Relais de la Poste) as one of its major stops.

To get to the beaches of the Landes from Magescq, you can leave your car at the Relais de la Poste and take the bus to visit the region.

Biogas, a natural gas for vehicles (NGV), is produced from the methanisation of organic waste (green residues, non-food agricultural residues, household waste, etc.). BioNGV is a renewable energy that can be produced in a short circuit. Methanisation plants are being encouraged to develop in the region to ensure local production. BioNGV is also more economical than diesel (its cost at the pump is on average 30% lower) and much less polluting (it emits 95% fewer fine particles). It emits no odours or smoke, and offers greater comfort for everyone, users and local residents alike: an engine running on biogas produces half as much noise or vibration as a diesel engine.

Le Relais de la Poste also recommends using bicycles to get around Magescq. There are many cycle paths available in the south of the Landes.

LANDES REGION EXPERIENCES

Close to the Relais de la Poste, the Mont Royal horse stables offer you a horse ride in the heart of the Landes forest, where you may be lucky enough to spot a deer or squirrel in its natural habitat. Riding lessons with Marion, a qualified instructor, and pony club for children and teenagers. Prefer to perfect your swing? Just 15 minutes away, the magnificent Moliets golf course links up with the dunes of the Atlantic Ocean. For thrill-seekers, try your hand at surfing the world-famous Landes Atlantic waves. And if you want to experience the thrills of a racing driver, you'll find the Bud Racing Training Camp in our village of Magescq, with its 4 motocross tracks, or the Magescq go-karting centre, with its 2 tracks set amid the Landes pines.

TO DISCOVER

Just 15 minutes away, Dax, famous for its thousand-year-old mud and bullfighting traditions, is the only town in the Landes region to have been awarded the Town of Art and History label. Then set off to discover the small villages of Chalosse, perched on the hills or nestling in the valleys, where you can learn about its history during a stopover at the Musée de la Chalosse in Montfort. For a trip back in time, head to the Ecomuseum at Marquèze and immerse yourself in 19th-century rural heathland, with its lifestyles, skills and bucolic atmosphere. Are you an art lover? In Magescq, discover the work of Xavier Carrère, who uses his mastery of glass-blowing and shaping techniques to create elegant sculptures designed for interiors or larger pieces for private gardens or public spaces.
